CatholicCare deals a helping hand to those in need during COVID-19
CatholicCare Social Services is urging people experiencing financial stress during COVID-19 to seek help.
Executive Director Mr Peter Loughnane said the Coronavirus pandemic had not discriminated and people from all walks of life have found themselves unexpectedly without an income, or a reduced wage.
‘This is incredibly stressful as people have families to support, mortgages and bills to pay,’ Peter said. ‘We want people to know that we are open, and we are here to support you. Please reach out for support if you need it.’
CatholicCare Social Services offers free financial counselling and problem gambling counselling to the Western Sydney community. All services are currently provided virtually, either online or by telephone to allow people to stay at home.
‘It’s crucial we stay at home right now, for the health of our community. But while COVID-19 is keeping us apart, we are still here for you,’ Peter said.
Head of Financial Counselling and Problem Gambling Counselling Mrs Linda Davis said all counselling services were confidential.
‘COVID-19 has placed a substantial financial burden on many members of the community and we want to support these people with any anxiety or distress they may be feeling, and to help them access the services and financial support they are eligible for,’ she said.
‘These are such difficult circumstances and for some people I understand that it might be difficult to ask for help. But please pick up the phone and have a chat with us – we are here to help.
‘We may be in isolation but you don’t need to go through this alone.’
